NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Christopher Newport University is raising the cost of attendance.

The university's board of visitors has voted to increase the total cost of attendance for in-state undergraduate students by more than 5 percent. The cost of attendance for out-of-state students has been raised by more than 6 percent.

The Daily Press reports (http://bit.ly/1KCA7MD ) this is the first time the price for out-of-state students was raised more than for in-state students.

Cost of attendance for undergraduate in-state residential students will be $23,140, an increase of $1,180. Out-of-state full time students will pay $34,438, an increase of $2,150. The current in-state full time student tuition is $21,960 and $32,288 for out-of-state students.
