SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Lawyers for a Colorado teenager accused in his Utah girlfriend's 2012 beating death are pushing to keep part of his case in juvenile court. A Utah defense attorney says 17-year-old Darwin Bagshaw could stay in juvenile services if he faces an obstruction of justice charge as a minor. A judge ruled last week that Bagshaw must stand trial for murder as an adult, but the obstruction charge can stay in juvenile court.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State transportation workers stumbled upon a suitcase with a body inside on the side of a busy Utah highway. A Utah Highway Patrol spokesman says the discovery was made in a ravine on the side of Interstate 80 about 18 miles west of Salt Lake City. He couldn't say if the body is a man or woman or if it is decomposed.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah sheriff's deputy who was shot in the head testified in the trial of a teenager accused of driving her boyfriend during a 50-mile crime spree that left another deputy dead. Utah County Sheriff's Deputy Greg Sherwood said in court that when he caught up to Meagan Grunwald he was scared and angry because he knew Sgt. Cory Wride had been fatally shot.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prosecutors say information about a possible alibi has led them to drop a murder charge against a man who was scheduled to go on trial this summer but was ready to change his plea. The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office filed court documents to dismiss the case against 49-year-old Thomas Pennington.
