KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — College of Southern Idaho forward Ray Kasongo is the first player to sign with Tennessee since Rick Barnes took over as the Volunteers' coach.
Tennessee announced the addition of Kasongo on Thursday. Kasongo, listed at 6-foot-9 and 235 pounds, plans to enroll in June and will be a sophomore in 2015-16.
Kasongo averaged 6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 15.6 minutes for College of Southern Idaho this past season. Barnes, who was hired on March 31, said in a statement that "he's got the ability to run and jump at a high level, and we believe he has the potential to become an elite rebounder."
Kasongo went to Pikeville (Kentucky) High School but is from Toronto.
Tennessee already signed guard Shembari Phillips and forward Admiral Schofield in November.
