ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos have waived talented but oft-injured outside linebacker Quanterus Smith as they begin their first minicamp under coach Gary Kubiak.
Smith is a third-year pro who appeared in all but one game last season after spending his rookie year on IR while recovering from a knee injury he suffered his senior season at Western Kentucky.
After collecting 11 tackles and two pass breakups, he returned to IR on the eve of the playoffs after reinjuring his surgically repaired left knee during practice.
Smith was leading the nation with 12 1-2 sacks in 2012 when he tore a ligament in his left knee just two months after his three-sack game against Alabama sent his draft stock soaring.
