ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Long-shot Si Sage won the $100,000 Last Tycoon Stakes by 3 1/4 lengths Saturday at Santa Anita, snapping a 10-race skid in the U.S.

Ridden by Elvis Trujillo, Si Sage ran 1 1/4 miles on turf in 2:02.08 and paid $87.60, $26 and $10.80 at 42-1 odds, the longest shot in the field of eight.

Ganesh returned $6.20 and $4.40, while Ireland-bred Abbey Vale was another nose back in third and paid $4.40 to show. Ganesh, Abbey Vale and Power Foot were involved in a three-way photo finish for second.

Big John B, the 8-5 favorite, finished last, beaten by 20 lengths.

Si Sage wore blinkers for the first time to restrict his vision. Light rain softened the turf course, replicating the footing the France-bred is used to in his native country.

"We sat behind and he was ready to go in the stretch," Trujillo said.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Si Sage's career earnings to $255,450, with four wins in 23 starts.
