LAS VEGAS (AP) — An 11-year-old is in custody after accidentally firing a stolen handgun at Deskin Elementary School in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Sun reports that police say the student fired the .45 caliber gun Wednesday as he reached into a backpack, shooting a hole in a desk. No one was hurt. Police say the fifth-grader was getting ready to leave school when the gun went off.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The architect of a scam that bilked investors out of at least $9 million has pleaded guilty to federal charges in Los Angeles. Prosecutors say Gordon Driver of Henderson entered pleas to wire fraud and also to making false statements to the SEC during an investigation. Driver now faces up to 25 years in federal prison.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The war of words between Elaine Wynn and the board of the company she co-founded with ex-husband Steve Wynn is set to be settled soon. Wynn Resorts Ltd. shareholders are expected to decide today if they agree with the company's decision not to re-elect Elaine Wynn to the board or if her campaign to remain has convinced them otherwise.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The iconic sign welcoming visitors to Las Vegas just became more pedestrian-friendly. KVVU-TV reports that a new traffic signal has been activated near the sign to help people cross Las Vegas Boulevard. Clark County officials say the new signal will protect tourists who cross the busy street to take their pictures in front of the retro "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" sign.
