LAS VEGAS (AP) — The iconic sign welcoming visitors to Las Vegas just became more pedestrian-friendly.
KVVU-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1KcrlVm ) that a new traffic signal was activated near the sign Thursday to help people cross Las Vegas Boulevard.
Clark County Commission Steve Sisolak said the new signal will protect tourists who cross the busy street to take their pictures in front of the retro "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" sign.
The county also opened an expanded parking lot because the older one was so heavily used.
Clark County Commission Mary Beth Scow said the new lot has more than twice as many parking spaces.
The sign's designer, Betty Willis, died in her home in Overton earlier this week. She was 91.
