PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah woman who pleaded guilty to killing six of her newborns and hiding their bodies in her garage has been sentenced to up to life in prison. A judge handed down the maximum sentence today to 40-year-old Megan Huntsman. The Pleasant Grove woman told police she was too addicted to meth to care for more children. She pleaded guilty to six counts of murder in February.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 42-year-old man paralyzed in a Bluffdale shooting is asking a Utah appeals court to either throw out his conviction or sentence him for having sex with a 17-year-old neighbor girl. David Serbeck was shot and paralyzed in July 2009 by Reginald Campos, who suspected Serbeck of aggressively following his daughter while patrolling the neighborhood.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada has helped a former U.S. Senate colleague become a Mormon. Reid, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, gave a blessing to Larry Pressler of South Dakota yesterday morning to confirm him as a member of the faith. The Deseret News reports the ceremony occurred at a Maryland church.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge in Utah is refusing to block a lawsuit filed by a group of ranchers demanding the federal government remove wild horses. U.S. District Judge Dee Benson ruled that the rancher's case met the necessary requirement to move forward. The Utah ranchers say mustangs are overrunning the range, causing ecological damage and reducing the grazing for livestock.
