University of Mary Washington president to retire in '16

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) — University of Mary Washington President Richard V. Hurley has announced his retirement next year.

Mary Washington's ninth president made the announcement Friday at a meeting of the Board of Visitors. His retirement is effective June 30, 2016.

Hurley has been the university's president since July 1, 2010. Prior to that date, he had served Mary Washington in various positions for 10 years, twice as acting president.

The University of Mary Washington has a total enrollment of nearly 5,000.
