ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — More than 40 people have been displaced after a fire heavily damaged two Ithaca buildings housing a popular pub and apartments located near the Cornell University campus.
Fire officials in Ithaca say the neighboring three-story buildings on Stewart Avenue are considered a total loss from damage sustained after the blaze broke out around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The fire lit up the pre-dawn sky as it tore through an apartment building and the next-door structure housing The Chapter House bar and restaurant on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. Both buildings are more than a century old. The apartment building will be torn down.
Officials say most of the displaced residents are Cornell students.
No one was injured.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
