Small earthquake detected in northwest Alabama

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A barely detectable earthquake gently shook northwest Alabama.

The U.S. Geological Survey announced a 1.9 magnitude earthquake was detected late Wednesday about four miles west of Russellville. No damage was reported.

Geologists told Al.com (http://bit.ly/1Ng3LMQ ) earthquakes that small temblors generally are not felt.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 17 miles southwest of Muscle Shoals and 21 miles southwest of Florence.
