NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Forecasters are warning that there could be "some big storms" today and Thursday in the middle of the country. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma says the Southern Plains could get large hail, damaging winds and a number of tornadoes today. Then tomorrow, the focus shifts to the mid-Mississippi River Valley, including virtually all of Illinois. Emergency officials say a tornado touched down briefly last night in southeastern Kansas.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Relatives of Walter Scott says they're thankful there's a video showing a white police officer shooting the 50-year-old black man in the back, killing him. North Charleston Patrolman Michael Thomas Slager was charged with murder Tuesday after officials viewed the video showing Scott running away from the officer as he's shot several times in the back. The shooting began as a traffic stop. The lawyer for the Scott family says he could have tried to run because he owed child support.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Family, friends and colleagues are mourning the loss of the seven victims of a small plane crash in central Illinois. The aircraft was returning from the NCAA basketball tournament in Indianapolis when it crashed in a field near Bloomington early yesterday, killing all on board. Among the victims were Illinois State University's associate head basketball coach and a deputy athletics director.

NEW YORK (AP) — A terror suspect is scheduled to appear in federal court in New York today after prosecutors say he helped raise money to have U.S. residents travel overseas to join the Islamic State group. Dilkhayot Kasimov is charged with conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization. Prosecutors say he provided the $1,600 another man headed to Syria had on him when he was intercepted at JFK International Airport.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The Streets of San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood have been cleaner since solar-powered toilets began rolling in four afternoons per week. The city's mobile bathrooms are guarded by attendants and have been so successful that officials say Honolulu, Portland and New York already have asked about them in their pursuit of solutions to similar sanitation problems. Supporters of the pilot program say having public bathrooms accessible has made the neighborhood known for crime, homelessness and poverty more livable.
