INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Duke Blue Devils are national champions for the fifth time following a 68-63 victory over Wisconsin at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Tyus Jones scored 13 of his 23 points in the final 11 minutes after the Blue Devils behind 48-39. Grayson Allen provided 10 of his 16 points in the second half and gave Duke a huge boost with Jahlil Okafor (jah-LIHL' OH'-kah-fohr) and Justice Winslow on the bench with foul trouble.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets won the last night's lone NBA game as Brook Lopez poured in 32 points and had nine rebounds in a 106-96 triumph over Portland. Deron Williams added 24 points and 10 assists as the Nets won for the ninth time in 11 games to strengthen their hold on an Eastern Conference playoff berth. Brooklyn sits seventh in the conference, one game ahead of Boston and two in front of Indiana and Miami.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Nationals Park will host baseball's 2018 All-Star Game, the fourth consecutive year that event will be in an NL city. New Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred made the announcement before attending the Washington's opener against the New York Mets. Cincinnati will hold the All-Star game this year, followed by San Diego in 2016 and Miami in 2017.
NEW YORK (AP) — Derek Stepan (STEH'-pan) scored the tying goal in the final minute of regulation before netting the game-winner in the New York Rangers' 4-3 overtime triumph against Columbus. Former Ranger Brandon Dubinsky put the Blue Jackets ahead 3-2 in the third period, and the score remained until Stepan tallied with 28 seconds left. The outcome puts the Rangers three points ahead of Montreal for the NHL's Eastern Conference lead, and two ahead of Anaheim in the overall standings.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ondrej Pavelec (AHN'-dray PAV'-lehk) picked up his third shutout of the season and 14th of his career by stopping 32 shots in Winnipeg's 2-0 win over Minnesota. Blake Wheeler and Drew Stafford provided the goals as the Jets regained sole possession of the eighth and final Western Conference playoff slot, one point ahead of Los Angeles and two behind the Wild.
