COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Officials at a northern Idaho museum are looking for a new building to store 2,700 objects ranging from furniture to a stagecoach.
"They're all items that our donors felt needed to be preserved," Dorothy Dahlgren, director of the Museum of North Idaho, told the Coeur d'Alene Press (http://bit.ly/1C6yNfx ). "We do our best here to maintain professional museum standards at the facility as far as cataloging and storage goes."
The museum in Coeur d'Alene displays some items and keeps others in storage in a building it leases on U.S. Bureau of Land Management property.
But city officials plan to lease the land for a project, meaning the museum will have to move the artifacts from the 8,000-square-foot building by June 1.
"This is a great building, but we knew the time would come where we would have to move," Dahlgren said.
She said the museum is looking for a new facility with at least 5,000 square feet and welcomes anyone who wants to help with the move.
"It's going to be quite a job to move all of this," Dahlgren said. "It is the community's history, and we hope they will assist us in any way they can with this project."
Coeur d'Alene Mayor Steve Widmyer said the city and museum have had a great partnership.
"Moving forward, we want to help them out with getting a new storage facility," he said. "In the long term, we want to help them with getting a new museum facility as well."
