ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister missed the team's final exhibition game Saturday after being sent home with flu-like symptoms.

Banister was expected to meet the team Sunday in Oakland, where the Rangers open the season Monday against the Athletics. The team was traveling Saturday after its preseason game at home against the New York Mets.

The first-year manager has been feeling ill for a couple of days. He said Friday that his whole body was aching, and recommended that people not shake his hand.

Bench coach Steve Buechele managed the team against the Mets.
