BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A plan to harshen fines for violating Idaho's open meeting laws is headed back to the starting line.
The first proposal had overwhelmingly passed both chambers, but that bill died Thursday after the Senate added a technical error while amending it.
The House Ways and Means Committee introduced a new version on Thursday.
However, it's unclear whether the bill has enough time to advance through both houses, as the Idaho Legislature is hoping to adjourn soon.
The bill would raise a basic open meeting violation from $50 to $250.
The penalties haven't been hiked since the law was passed more than 40 years ago.
