BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Southwest Idaho authorities are reviewing the legality of a charity event involving dog races with Dachshunds after a dog rescue organization sent a "cease and desist" letter.
KBOI-TV in Boise reports (http://bit.ly/1IrFM6D) in a story on Thursday that Greyhound Rescue of Idaho sent the letter to Boise Host Lions Club concerning the group's 2nd Annual Wiener Dog Races set for May 30 in Boise.
Virginia McKean of Greyhound Rescue says the law for dog racing is clear and any live dog races in Idaho are illegal.
Boise Host Lions Club says there is no wagering and the races are for family pets with race distances less than 50 feet.
Early registration is $25 with a first-place prize of $100.
Boise police say they are reviewing the matter.
