BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Gov. Butch Otter's office says the director of the Idaho State Police has been reappointed to his post for a four-year term. Col. Ralph Powell, a longtime state trooper, was first appointed to head the law enforcement agency by Otter in 2013. Powell faced criticism last year after it was revealed that despite a request from the Idaho Department of Correction, he declined to investigate allegations of understaffing and falsified reports given to the state by private prison contractor Correction Corporation of America.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Senate has approved spending $400,000 to kill wolves. The plan would give the Idaho Wolf Depredation Board the same funding it had during its first year of operation last year. Republican Sen. Steve Bair from Blackfoot says that Idaho is currently home to more than 600 wolves — well above the 100 wolf federal minimum.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Signs to help victims of human trafficking may soon be coming to highway rest stops in Idaho. The Senate Transportation Committee unanimously endorsed the bill, which would let non-profit organizations place signs in rest areas with a toll-free number of victims of human trafficking to call. The plan has already unanimously passed the House.
