This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
Dr. Joyce Sibbett, executive director of Dancing Moose Montessori School, has a deep dedication and understanding of creating the perfect atmosphere for children so they can learn with an engaged and active brain. In the most formative time in a child's life where they develop a love for learning and discovery, Dr. Sibbett has a focus on children from 18 months to 9 years old. And the outcome is self-confidence and skill development and mastery.
Dr. Sibbett is uncomfortable with putting all kids in the same box, expecting them to learn at the same level on the same timeframe. She is also concerned about having too many kids and too few teachers which causes a decrease in creativity. That's why she now has two locations of her school, Dancing Moose Montessori, in West Valley City and South Jordan. After being in business 8 years, she has worked with over 2,000 students. Many families of graduates keep in touch to express gratitude for the deep academic impact she and her staff of 60 have had.
These are mostly children of working parents who are reading by the age of 3. Dr. Maria Montessori came up with this program in the early 1900s and by the mid-1900s, it had gone global. The technique is still very popular today where, with hands-on learning, they create lifetime learning experiences for children.
The technique is set up so the teacher presents and the children explore. If they make a mistake, the teacher notes it and then presents it again on another day. It's not a matter of being right or wrong but more of being investigators and explorers. At Dancing Moose Montessori, they put an emphasis on literacy and math development because they know if kids can get the most basic skills first, they can build others quickly.
Dancing Moose children are engaged in hands-on learning to explore their environment at a level that interests them. That allows them to continue to challenge themselves, to develop a capacity for creativity while developing skills.
