RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — A settlement has been reached in a $30 million lawsuit over the 2011 death of a Fremont County elementary school student killed by a vehicle after exiting a school bus.
Family attorney Emily Roberts Rankin tells The Riverton Ranger (http://bit.ly/1HZzOKv) that the settlement was reached after mediation with a federal magistrate judge.
She said the terms of the settlement are confidential.
The attorney for the district didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Daniel and Melissa Sperry sued Fremont County School District 6 after the Dec. 20, 2011, death of their 11-year-old daughter, MaKayla Strahle.
The vehicle's driver was convicted of three misdemeanor charges, including homicide by vehicle.
The incident led to Wyoming equipping school buses statewide with video cameras to catch motorists who illegally pass stopped buses.
