WASHINGTON (AP) — A man with a knife in his pocket who managed to get well into the White House has pleaded guilty to federal charges. Omar Gonzales scaled the fence, dashed across the lawn and made it to the mansion's East Room before being detained. Federal sentencing guidelines recommend between 12 and 18 months in prison for the former Army veteran.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Lobbyists say top House Republicans and Democrats are working toward a $200 billion agreement revamping how doctors are paid for treating Medicare patients. The potential deal would end a formula that for years has prompted lawmakers to block unrealistically deep cuts in doctors' Medicare reimbursements. It is expected to also include money for a children's health program whose budget will soon run dry.

PHOENIX (AP) —President Barack Obama says Veterans Affairs is "chipping away" at the problems at VA treatment centers. The president visited the Phoenix VA hospital today where there was a scandal over the reporting of delays. Obama met with veterans, VA employees and elected officials, including Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake, Arizona's two Republican senators.

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Protest organizers in Ferguson, Missouri, say they'll keep pushing until the mayor is forced out and the entire police force is dissolved. There have been at least a half-dozen firings and resignations since the release of a Justice Department report that documented patterns of racial bias. Meanwhile, there have been no arrests in connection with the early Thursday shooting that left two officers wounded.

PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — A clubhouse outbreak of pink eye is forcing the Milwaukee Brewers to find a new way to celebrate top plays at spring training. High-fiving hand slaps are out until the condition is under control. Instead tapping elbows or and bumping glove-covered fists are in. A number of players have flu-like symptoms and the tell-tale eye discoloration.
