BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A small earthquake in northern Idaho near the Lucky Friday Mine temporarily slowed production yesterday morning, but work resumed after an inspection determined the mine remained safe. The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office says no injuries or damage were reported after the 2.7-magnitude temblor occurred about 9:30 a.m.
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An eastern Idaho man police say fled to California after killing his girlfriend has been extradited back to Idaho. The Post Register reports that Bonneville County Sheriff's deputies picked up 25-year-old Kevin Mcquilliams on Thursday. Mcquilliams is charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault after the Jan. 1 shooting death in Idaho Falls of 34-year-old Annarae Ponce.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — One of the Idaho Legislature's most anticipated proposals to boost teacher pay has been revealed nine days before lawmakers begin setting the state's public education budget. Under the plan, beginning teacher pay would bump up from $31,750 to $32,200 per year school starting in fiscal year 2016 and eventually increase to $37,000 over five years. After three years at the beginning level, teachers would qualify to move into a new tier.
HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — A $1.6 million project to repair the roof on the Blaine County Courthouse in the central Idaho town of Hailey is done except for some painting and calking. The Idaho Mountain Express reports that building inspectors on Tuesday issued a permanent certificate of occupancy. The courthouse was built in 1884. County Operations Director Char Nelson says the new roof should help the building last another 130 years.
