STEPHENVILLE, Texas (AP) — Hours after hearing closing arguments, a Texas jury has convicted a former Marine in the deaths of the "American Sniper" author and another man. Former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield, were gunned down at a shooting range two years ago by Eddie Ray Routh (rowth). His lawyers failed to convince a jury in Stephenville (STEE'-ven-vil) that he was insane at the time of the killings. The conviction brings an automatic life sentence.
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — An Arizona man who caused the crash of a commuter train bound for Los Angeles faces legal trouble. Police in Oxnard have arrested the driver of a pickup that got stuck at a railway crossing, causing a fiery collision. Three of the train's five cars left the track, injuring more than two dozen passengers, some critically. The driver was briefly hospitalized and later arrested for suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
DALLAS (AP) — Southwest Airlines says it has grounded 128 planes after failing to inspect backup hydraulic systems used to control the rudder if the main system fails. The grounding affects about a fifth of the airline's fleet. Southwest says it has canceled 90 flights so far. Federal regulators have been notified and inspections are being made.
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut authorities say four students at Wesleyan University have been arrested in connection with a dozen hospitalizations among people who took a party drug known as Molly. The four have also been suspended from the university, which is based in Middletown.
CHICAGO (AP) — Despite a massive campaign war chest and a last minute boost from President Barack Obama, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has failed to capture the more than 50 percent of the vote needed to avoid a runoff. That means Emanuel -- a former White House chief of staff -- faces an April 7 runoff against Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" (CHOO'-wee) Garcia.
