OGDEN — With a steal and commanding dunk in the final seconds of overtime, Kearns senior Bushman Ebet capped off a wild come-from-behind victory to give the Cougars a 67-59 win over the Timpanogos Timberwolves.

The Cougars started the game out slow with some early-game jitters and several missed shots, as Timpanogos took a 15-6 lead after the first quarter. But a suffocating full-court press by the Cougars in the second half stifled the Timberwolves’ offense and allowed the Cougars back into the game.

“The guys said we’re not done; we’ve still got more,” Kearns head coach Dan Cosby said. “They said we’ve got it coach, and they did it. We put a little pressure on them and I think that’s what decided the game.”

“At the beginning we were out of it, but we talked as a team and came together and everything worked out,” Ebet said. “We had to push it and keep working.”

With 1:15 left in the fourth quarter, the Cougars took the lead for the first time. The Timberwolves, though, made a game-tying shot with 16.3 seconds left in the game to force overtime.

The Timberwolves made a costly error in the first overtime when one of its players was called for goaltending on a made basket, which could have been a three-point play as a result of a foul on Keans. Instead, Timpanogos settled for a single made free throw and a second overtime.

The Cougars jumped to a quick lead behind a 14-point performance to claim a wild win in double overtime. Ebet finished the game as Kearns’ leading scorer with 24 points, 8 rebounds, 8 steals and 4 assists.

“He’s got a knack for the ball and where the ball is going to be,” Cosby said. “He’s probably one of the best defenders in the state.”

Kearns will play Logan on Thursday at 5:50 p.m. at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
