SMITHFIELD, Utah (AP) — A 73-year-old Utah man has died in a snowmobile accident in Idaho.

Franklin County, Idaho, sheriff's deputies say Dennis Thompson of Smithfield, Utah, was snowmobiling with family members Saturday afternoon when he climbed a steep hill in the Gibson Lake area.

Due to snowy conditions, he apparently went down a steep drop-off after he reached the top and his snowmobile struck a couple of trees before coming to a stop about 60 feet below.

Family members' efforts to revive him failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
