The couse whitetail deer is named after naturalist L.A. Couse.
Compared to its Eastern and Northern cousins, the couse is exceptionally small. It inhabits parts of New Mexico, Arizona and almost all of Sonora, Mexico.
The couse deer is considered by some to be one of the most prized deer trophies in North America.
