SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) — Ridge Shipley scored a career-high 26 points on a career-high eight total field goals to help lead Cal Poly to a 70-63 victory over Cal-State Northridge on Thursday night.
Reese Morgan added 16 points and Joel Awich finished with 15 for the Mustangs (11-11, 4-6 Big West), who hit 45.7 percent from the field, held Cal-State Northridge to 40 percent, and won the rebounding battle 39-27. Overall, Cal Poly is 11-0 this season when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent and 0-11 when it does not.
Cal Poly did much of its damage in the first half, taking a 33-19 lead into the break.
Stephan Hicks led the Matadors (6-20, 2-9) with 18 points. Aaron Parks and Stephen Maxwell each scored 16 apiece.
Cal-State Northridge has lost seven straight, its third losing streak of four losses or more this season.
