The Pacific Coast League announced today that Howie Kendrick, Joe Saunders and Jered Weaver have been chosen to represent the league at the Triple-A All-Star game in Toledo, Ohio on July 12, 2006 (7:00 p.m. EST). The PCL roster includes 13 players who were selected by ballots submitted by members of the media (1/3), field managers and general managers (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3). Nearly 900,000 votes were cast by fans.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our players,” said Bees Manager Brian Harper. “These three are among the best in the league and our record is a reflection of their performance. Joe and Jered have pitched extremely well and Howie is an incredible hitter.”
Weaver, who started four games for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this season, is 6-1 with the Bees with a 2.10 ERA while Saunders leads the PCL with nine wins and has a 2.33 ERA. Kendrick currently leads all of Triple-A baseball with a .388 batting average,
“We are honored to have three players selected as All-Stars,” said Bees General Manager Marc Amicone. “This is a testament to the Angels farm system and the quality of players they provide, especially for fans in Salt Lake ”
The Triple-A All-Star Game has featured 56 players that have gone on to participate in the Major League All-Star Game. The talented list includes Hank Blalock, Jason Isringhausen, Derek Jeter, Chipper Jones, Paul Konerko, Paul LoDuca, Pedro Martinez, Alfonso Soriano, and Jim Thome.
