CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Legendary North Carolina men's basketball coach and Hall of Famer Dean Smith has died. His family says, through a statement issued by the school, the 83-year-old passed away last evening with his wife and five children with him. Smith won two national championships at North Carolina along with an Olympic gold medal.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — All-Star forward Blake Griffin of the Clippers will be out of action for a while. Griffin needs surgery to remove a staph infection in his right elbow. He will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break. Griffin is averaging 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 50.1 percent from the field.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — The final round of the PGA's Farmers Insurance Open is today in San Diego. The lead after three rounds was shared by J.B. Holmes and Harris English at 9 under par. Five players were tied for second, a shot back, at the end of play yesterday.

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas (AP) — Inbee Park staked claim to the lead early in the final round of the LPGA Classic in the Bahamas. After three holes she stood 1-under for the day and 12-under for the tournament with five players tied at minus-11.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Today marks the last day of play in the first full-field event of the year on the Champions Tour in Boca Raton, Florida. Rod Spittle, Jose Coceres, Steve Lowery and Paul Gaydos are battling it out for supremacy.
