TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A Tucson Police Department report says a police officer unsuccessfully appealed an 80-hour suspension that he was given for his actions in a 2014 campus melee.
The melee broke out March 29 after the University of Arizona basketball team lost in the NCAA tournament at Anaheim, California.
Wildcats fans took to the streets and hurled beer bottles and firecrackers at officers who used pepper spray to disperse the crowd.
A student said she suffered an injured arm and back after being knocked over a bench by Sgt. Joel Mann.
Prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against Mann, who said in his appeal of the suspension that he did nothing wrong and expected to be exonerated.
