BAYVIEW, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in northern Idaho say skeletal remains that appear to be human have been found by a hiker.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office in a news release Thursday says the hiker reported finding the bones at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The agency says deputies hiked into the remote forested area near Bayview and found several bones that appear to be human remains.

Kootenai County Sheriff Ben Wolfinger says detectives responded to the scene but suspended the investigation due to darkness.

He says a deputy was posted overnight.
