CHICAGO (AP) — Recipients of the 2015 MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions were announced by the Chicago-based MacArthur Foundation on Thursday. Here is a list of the winners and the amount of financial support they received as part of the award:

—Asistencia Legal por los Derechos Humanos, Mexico City, ($350,000) works for justice reform in Mexico.

—Firelight Media, New York City, ($500,000) helps minority documentary filmmakers.

—Forest Trends, Washington, D.C., ($1 million) tracks the value of forests in economic terms.

—FrameWorks Institute, Washington, D.C., ($1 million) works toward effective communication about complex social issues.

—Human Rights Center, University of California, Berkeley, ($1 million) applies science and research to protect human rights globally.

—iCivics - Washington, D.C., ($750,000) develops civics education tools.

—John Howard Association of Illinois, Chicago, ($500,000) works for fair treatment of the incarcerated in Illinois through independent oversight.

—National Institute on Money in State Politics, Helena, Montana, ($1 million) tracks campaign finance data in all 50 states.

—Roosevelt Campus Network, New York City, ($750,000) engages young people's participation in making public policy.
