WASHINGTON (AP) — James Carlton scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Howard past Maryland Eastern Shore 83-74 on Monday night.
Carlton, coming off a career-high 32 in a win against Morgan State on Saturday, was 11 of 20 from the field, including 3 of 4 from 3-point range, and hit 6 of 7 free throws.
James Daniel hit five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points, and James Miller added 19 for Howard (12-10, 6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).
Devon Walker scored 18 points, hitting five 3-pointers, for UMES (13-11, 6-3). Mike Myers had 14, Dominique Elliott 12 and Ishaq Pitt added 11 as the Shore Hawks had their three-game winning streak snapped.
UMES led for a majority of the first half and Dominique Elliott's putback at the buzzer knotted it a 33. But Howard started the second half on a 10-3 run.
