COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho judge says a 15-year-old accused of killing his father and brother knew what he was doing when he confessed to police. The Spokesman-Review reports that 1st District Court Judge Benjamin Simpson denied a defense motion to suppress statements Eldon Gale Samuel III made. Samuel is charged with shooting 46-year-old Eldon Samuel Jr. and shooting and stabbing 13-year-old Jonathan Samuel in March in Coeur d'Alene.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An eastern Idaho man police say fled to California after shooting and killing his girlfriend in Idaho Falls is fighting attempts to be extradited to Idaho. The Post Register reports that 25-year-old Kevin Mcquilliams of Pocatello remains in Nevada County jail. He faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault after the Jan. 1 shooting death of 34-year-old Annarae Ponce of Pocatello.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The head of Idaho's horse racing regulatory agency has retired. The Idaho Statesman reports that Frank Lamb's retirement is effective immediately. The announcement came two days after the Statesman reported Lamb had been working as a consultant in Wyoming for a simulcast and instant horse racing company.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Arthur Alarcon, the first Latino appointed to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, has died. He was 89. A court statement says Alarcon had cancer and died at his Los Angeles home Wednesday. Alarcon was a judge for more than 50 years on state and federal courts. He was appointed to the 9th Circuit in 1979 and served until taking senior status in 1992.
