LAS VEGAS (AP) — State gambling regulators are giving a tax refund to 13 casino-hotels worth at least $700,000 total after the properties overpaid Nevada's live entertainment tax. The Nevada Gaming Commission approved the settlement agreements with the casino-hotels in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Laughlin and Reno.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada state Sen. Debbie Smith says she'll introduce a bill this legislative session to keep guns away from people convicted of domestic violence. The Sparks Democrat says her bill would prohibit people from having a gun if they're subject to an extended restraining order for domestic violence, or if they've been convicted of a domestic violence or stalking crime.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A jury in Reno has found a 47-year-old man guilty of battery on a police officer and possession of methamphetamine stemming from a June 2013 incident. Prosecutors say a jury found Shawn Hemingway guilty of charges that could get him up to four years in state prison and a year in county jail.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Thirty-eight attorneys, prosecutors, local court judges and commissioners are vying for three vacant state judge positions left by the appointment of judges to the new Nevada Court of Appeals. The Nevada Supreme Court says 25 applications were received by Wednesday for two open Eighth Judicial District Court seats in Las Vegas.
