NEW YORK (AP) — Supermarket chain Albertsons says U.S. regulators have approved its purchase of competitor Safeway Inc. The companies say the deal has been cleared by the Federal Trade Commission and should close within five business days. Albertsons, which privately held and part-owned by Cerberus Capital Management, agreed to buy Safeway in March for $7.64 billion in cash.

NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — The American Civil Liberties Union is investigating the death of the lead plaintiff in a civil rights lawsuit against the Canyon County Jail. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports Jeri-Alfred Cook died last year. His family says jail officials ignored Cook's pleas for medical help. In 2011, Cook successfully sued the county over unsafe jail conditions.

HOLLISTER, Idaho (AP) — A 52-year-old south-central Idaho man has been found dead following a trailer fire. The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office tells The Times-News that the body of Shawn Silveira was found inside the trailer Monday evening after crews extinguished the blaze. Authorities say an autopsy will be performed but no foul play is suspected.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Derrick Marks scored 26 of his 28 points in the second half and made the go-ahead 3-pointer as Boise State defeated Colorado State 82-78. Marks drained a 3-pointer with 1:20 remaining to cap a 7-0 burst as the Broncos won their fifth straight game.
