DETROIT (AP) — A child in southeast Michigan has died from the flu, making it the state's first confirmed adolescent death from the virus this season.
The Michigan Department of Community Health did not release any other identifying details about the child.
The Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/1CmREWF ) reports adult deaths from the flu are not tracked as closely, but a dozen or more have been reported in Michigan.
Health officials say just 41 hospitalizations from the flu were reported in the week that ended Jan. 10. That's down from 140 new hospitalizations two weeks earlier.
State health spokeswoman Jennifer Smith says it looks like Michigan is coming off its flu peak, but warned of later upticks or strains.
