SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine man is settling a lawsuit he filed against pet supply chain Petco over a case of rat-bite fever.
The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/1KVlbKV ) reports a Petco spokesman confirmed there was a settlement but said the terms were confidential.
Dominic Profenno Jr. sued the chain in April after saying he was twice bitten by a rat he bought at Petco's South Portland location. He says he contracted rat-bite fever, a rare disease, and was hospitalized for more than a month.
Profenno said he bought the rat to feed his son's pet boa constrictor. The snake ate the rat and was not harmed.
