STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say five men died in a Northern California crash while driving through thick morning fog.
California Highway Patrol Officer James Smith said Tuesday that a van carrying six farmworkers was broadsided by a truck.
The accident happened east of Stockton in San Joaquin County.
Smith tells KXTV (http://www.news10.net/ ) that visibility was less than 100 feet at the time, and the drivers probably couldn't see each other.
CHP spokesman Richard Wetzel says the van was attempting to cross State Route 4 when the collision occurred.
He says the sixth man in the van had major injuries; he and two occupants of the truck were taken to area hospitals.
The accident remains under investigation.
