HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Jabari Peters scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half as Sam Houston State used a strong second period to beat Southeastern Louisiana 72-59 on Monday night.

Sam Houston State (12-4, 4-0 Southland), picked up its seventh straight win and remained perfect in conference play.

Peters was 3 of 5 from long range. DeMarcus Gatlin and Aurimas Majauskas had 11 points apiece for the Bearkats.

The game was tied at 31 at the break. Gatlin hit a jumper and drove in for a layup and Peters nailed a 3-pointer to start the second period and the Bearkats led 40-35. The Lions closed to 40-38 but the SHSU answered with a 15-6 run to go up 55-44 with 8:56 left. The Lions could not close the gap and were outscored 41-28 in the second half.

Zay Jackson had 18 points and Joshua Filmore added 17 for Southeastern Louisiana (4-12, 1-2).
