OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Layton Mayor Bob Stevenson says filling the shoes of the city's top police official will be tough.
Police Chief Terry Keefe retired this week after a 43-year career in law enforcement.
The 62-year-old Keefe tells the Standard Examiner (http://bit.ly/1wDx1Qr ) that he's confident the department will perform well without him.
Stevenson says Keefe's departure is a big loss for the city. He says Keefe's leadership and innovation will be missed.
Keefe's first security job came in 1972 as a marshal in Farmington, patrolling an amusement park. He's also worked for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office and West Valley City.
His final act as police chief was attending a retirement reception Thursday at Layton City Hall.
