PITTSBURGH (AP) — Hundreds of western Pennsylvania school districts are closing or delaying classes as frigid temperatures remained for a third straight day, this time keeping temperatures hovering around zero and producing even lower wind chills.
Relatively light snow that fell on much of western Pennsylvania earlier this week has stopped and none was forecast into the weekend, when temperatures were expected to slowly climb into the 20s on Friday and into the mid-30s by Sunday.
In northwestern Pennsylvania, a lake-effect snow warning expired at 4 a.m. Thursday, but the National Weather Service has issued another from 10 p.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Saturday for Erie and Crawford counties. Those areas have already received at least six inches of snow and another six to 10 inches was forecast for Erie during the warning, and four to eight in Crawford County.
