SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Incoming speaker of the Utah House Greg Hughes says his predecessor Becky Lockhart has been hospitalized with an undiagnosed condition.
Hughes said in a statement Wednesday afternoon that he visited Lockhart and her family at the hospital that morning and is shocked and saddened by her illness.
He and Sen. Curt Bramble, a Lockhart family spokesman, have not released further details about her illness.
Bramble told lawmakers late Tuesday that Lockhart is critically ill.
Lockhart, a 46-year-old Republican from Provo, decided not to seek another term in the Legislature this year.
She became Utah's first female speaker in 2010. Her term ended Jan. 1.
