NEW YORK (AP) — New York police have released the identity of a noted New Jersey golf instructor hit and killed by a car on Manhattan's Upper East Side, and they say the driver who hit him was ticketed.
The New York Police Department says 27-year-old Wesley Mensing of Scotch Plains and a woman were crossing a street Saturday evening when a Mercedes-Benz SUV hit them both. The 30-year-old woman is hospitalized in stable condition.
The 45-year-old SUV driver got an unlicensed-driving ticket. Police haven't released his name.
Golf Digest in November listed Mensing as one of the "best young teachers in America."
Mensing worked at the Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey. Golf director Scott Paris tells the Daily News that Mensing's skill and passion for teaching golf were "never-ending."
