PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — It was a Rose Bowl to remember for Oregon, and one to forget to Florida State.
Unfortunately for the Seminoles, the record book of the Granddaddy of Them All is now filled with reminders of their humiliation.
The Ducks broke 10 Rose Bowl records, headlined by scoring the most points (59) in the history of the event and securing the largest non-shutout margin of victory (39).
Oregon had 639 yards of total offense to break Pac-12 Conference foe Southern California's 7-year-old mark, and the Ducks had eight touchdowns to match Michigan's total in 1902, back when a touchdown was worth five points.
And the 27-point third-quarter blitz by Oregon matched the most points ever scored in a quarter, equaling Illinois in 1952 and the loaded Miami Hurricanes team that won the BCS title in 2002.
Linebacker Tony Washington's back-breaking 58-yard scoop and score in the third quarter was the longest fumble return ever in the game.
The 1,167 combined yards by Oregon and Florida State bested the dramatic 2005 title game between Texas and USC by 37 yards, while the 168 combined plays was three better than what the Ducks' 1995 loss to Penn State produced.
