BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — ESPN says its New Year's Eve tripleheader averaged 7.1 million viewers, making the games the best performing Dec. 31 trio in the cable network's history.

The Orange Bowl averaged 8.9 million viewers, a 5.0 Nielsen rating in the United States). ESPN called it the most-viewed New Year's Eve game on record, with numbers dating back to 1990.

The Fiesta Bowl averaged 7.4 million viewers, a 4.6 rating in the United States.

The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl averaged 5 million viewers, a 3.4 U.S. rating.
