TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — The federal government says 105,000 New Jersey residents signed up for health insurance in 2015 during the first month registration was open on the insurance exchange.
The majority of those who registered through the federally run program were people who had coverage in 2014 and were re-enrolling.
But 43 percent of those who signed up for coverage from Nov. 15 through Dec. 15 were new to the exchange, which launched in 2014 as a key part of President Barack Obama's health insurance overhaul.
More than 160,000 people in the state had coverage for 2014.
The deadline to enroll is Feb. 15. Many people are eligible for subsidized coverage through the program.
