HAYDEN, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother after he reached into her purse at a northern Idaho Wal-Mart and her gun fired. The woman was shopping with her son and three other children this morning at the Hayden store. Kootenai County sheriff's spokesman Stu Miller says her family was in the area to visit relatives.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Court of Appeals has thrown out a black man's sex crime convictions, saying the prosecutor interjected race in closing arguments by quoting lyrics from the Confederate anthem "Dixie." All three judges agreed that Canyon County Deputy Prosecutor Erica Kallin erred in citing a song praising what the judges called pernicious racism that might have influenced the jury. The prosecutor says he will retry the case if the decision isn't appealed.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Notus man has pleaded guilty to the shooting death of another man outside a southwest Idaho Walgreens. The Idaho Statesman reports Pedro Martin Jr. died after being shot in his torso. Police say James Whitewater, hours before the shooting, beat Martin after Martin's girlfriend told him Martin had broken her jaw with a beer bottle earlier that month.

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Aspen Skiing Co. plans to build a hotel in Ketchum modeled on its Limelight Hotel in Aspen. The company says the hotel will be near Sun Valley's River Run base at Bald Mountain. It will also be called the Limelight. The lot is currently vacant. Aspen Skiing bought it from Bald Mountain LLC.
