ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Rams guard Rodger Saffold will undergo left shoulder surgery next month for an injury that's bothered him throughout the year.
Before the season finale at Seattle, Saffold said he wanted to have the procedure done as soon as possible. He's worn a brace much of the year but started every game for the first time since his rookie season in 2010.
The operation will take place Jan. 7 in New York and will not be done by Rams physicians.
Saffold has proven versatile with St. Louis, starting at three offensive line spots. On Sunday, he started at left guard and also had snaps at right guard and left tackle when Joe Barksdale and rookie Greg Robinson were sidelined for a handful of plays each.
