KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii (AP) — In his Christmas tradition, President Barack Obama has honored troops at a Marine Corps Base in Hawaii. Taking a brief break from his vacation, Obama said the world is more prosperous and the American homeland is protected because of the sacrifices made by U.S. military members and their families. He noted that the U.S. combat role in the 13-year war in Afghanistan is coming to an end next week.
HONG KONG (AP) — Democracy protesters have returned to the streets of Hong Kong. Police say 37 people were arrested overnight. It's the second straight night of unrest. Some in the crowd wore red Santa Claus hats and chanted in Cantonese "I want true democracy."
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a disruptive passenger forced a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles to land in Albuquerque on Thursday evening. Police arrested the passenger but it's not clear what happened. The FBI was also notified and will decide what to do with the passenger.
TOKYO (AP) — Sony's online PlayStation store and Microsoft's Xbox site have suffered disruptions to users on Christmas Day in what may be the latest possible cyberattack on the electronics and entertainment company. Some PlayStation and Xbox users have had trouble logging on.. Engineers are said to be investigating.
NEW YORK (AP) — The manager of a New York City theater that screened "The Interview" says the theater was taking a stand for freedom. And he said he wasn't afraid, despite a threat of terrorism against theaters showing the movie. The satire is about a plot to kill the leader of North Korea. Major theater chains dropped plans to show it. But hundreds of theaters made special arrangements to add it to their Christmas Day schedules. It's also available online.
